            This brochure is designed to provide the reader with a
        general description of the domestic portion of the AUTODIN
        System, from a viewpoint of the functional, operational and
        network characteristics. This system , which was deigned
        and  developed by Western Union with the support of RCA,
        IBM and many other members of the electronic industry,
        was activated in early 1963. Since that date, many ne
        features and capabilities have been added under the
        direction of DCA and  the respective Military Departments.

            Western Union is pleased to be a member of the Military-
        Industry team in this joint venture. which has resulted in the
        creation of the World's largest and most modern record com-
        munication system.
